The Climate Change in Latin America Teacher Fellows Program is a funded, year-long fellowship for North Carolina middle and high school teachers during the school year. This program aims to enhance teacher expertise in the recent history and understanding of climate change in Latin America, as well as to provide opportunities for teachers to collaborate on developing curriculum and materials about the effects of climate change in Latin America.
The Climate Change in Latin America Teacher Fellowship is designed to:
Enhance and strengthen Fellows’ knowledge of climate change and how climate change is affecting Latin America.
- Develop curriculum units and materials on climate change in Latin America for grades 6-12 social studies, world languages, and science classes in North Carolina.
- Disseminate curriculum units and materials on climate change in Latin America for grades 6-12 social studies, world languages, and science classes in North Carolina through Fellows’ creation of lesson plans and classroom materials.
- Increase implementation of curriculum units and materials on climate change in Latin America into grades 6-12 social studies, world languages, and science courses.
The program began in 2023 and is in coordination with the July 2025 Costa Rica Study Tour.
