Time Machines — 2019 NC Latin American Film Festival

Festival Director: Miguel Rojas-Sotelo
PRAGDA Series curated by Cristina Carrasco and Miguel Rojas-Sotelo

Time Machines is the title for the 2019 NCLAFF. Most films connect stories and places in a variety of cinematic languages. From documentary to fiction and hybrid genres, recent audiovisual production from the region explores, via memory, re-enactment, historical revision, sci-fi and animation, narratives of the past and present. Audiovisual production from or about indigenous nations builds on the transformative nature of their stories of origin, now entangled with experiences of displacement, natural extraction, and violence. Historical films still review the colonial period and the formation of modern nations from individual and collective experiences reconnecting time and space. Issues such as race, gender and mobility are present as expressions of the multiplicity of ways of being in Latin America. Time Machines is just a limited selection of titles of those visions from an ever-extended region from an audiovisual perspective. We hope you will enjoy and find topics to reflect and share.
